TP Trailers & Truck Gives Back
From the very beginning, TP Trailers & Truck Equipment was a family business that cared about the community. Our story begins with Tom Perkins Jr more than half a century ago in Bridgeport, PA. He founded Perkins Garage, Inc. which was a truck repair, inspection and service facility. Tom and his wife, Ann, worked hard, raising a family of four children while maintaining a round-the-clock routine which created the solid foundation that TP Trailers was built upon.
Through the years, while creating a business and raising a family, Tom Perkins was present in the lives of others and in the community, helping people where and when he could. At his funeral in 2003, numerous stories were told of this quiet, humble help that was given regularly, unbeknownst to others around him.
The humble nature of charitable giving and personal support continues in person and in business with two of Tom and Ann’s children — Tommy and Donna — who own and operate TP Trailers in Limerick, PA today. Although it is impossible to assist everyone, everywhere, we have identified a number of charities that touch the lives of employees and family, as a way of giving back to the community.
Who We Support
Locally, TP Trailers wanted to do something for the police in the community, so when it was mentioned that patrol bikes were needed for the police, we worked with a local bike store to purchase and provide a bike for the Limerick Police Department. Smaller donations are made to 4-H programs which were a large part of Tommy and Donna’s childhood and various vocational programs which support and promote diesel technician education!
In addition, a variety of youth sports teams and associations have benefited from the traditional TP Logo sponsorship for thirty years in soccer, softball, swimming, equine, basketball, animal rescue, field hockey and baseball. As events occur in the community, TP Trailers also makes one-time individual determinations to assist in areas of need.
Because so many people are touched by cancer daily, and Donna’s daughter, Emily, works on a Relay for Life team, the American Cancer Society is one of our most significant beneficiaries each year. Through some employee and business associates who were affected by Multiple Sclerosis, we’ve made it a part of our mission to give to MS research. Due to the wonderful work at Temple Heart Center working with Tom Perkins Jr through an early heart transplant, we have made the American Heart Association one of the groups we support. We also make it a point to support organizations that change the lives of children. TP Trailers gives to both Penn Hershey for Children — and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, by providing the funding that sends children with Muscular Dystrophy to camp year-after-year.
Finally, the non-profit, LCpl Matt Snyder Camp Snoops Project, is co-operated by family members and was established to promote Veterans and Memorial Day education in schools and to help veterans in need. As an in-office small recognition, all veterans who come into the office receive a thank you star packet for his or her service.
From our beginnings as the Perkins Garage to our current status as one of the largest trailer and equipment dealers on the East Coast, we have kept our commitment to giving back. So when you trust TP Trailers & Truck Equipment, you’re helping to improve lives in the community and beyond.
